Shahid Afridi criticizes PCB over captaincy change ahead of T20 World Cup

Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi expressed dissatisfaction with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) amid reports of a change in captaincy ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024. Following Pakistan's poor performance in the ODI World Cup 2023, Babar Azam was relieved of captaincy duties in all formats. The board appointed Shan Masood as the Test skipper and Shaheen Afridi as the T20I captain. However, Shaheen Afridi struggled initially, losing four matches before securing a win in the final game of the series.

Afridi, who is also Shaheen's father-in-law, urged the board to give the new captain time to prove himself, criticizing the frequent changes in Pakistan cricket's leadership.

In addition, Afridi commented on the return of Imad Wasim and Mohammad Amir, stating that their fitness would improve if they successfully complete the ongoing training camp in Kakul, Abbottabad. The camp aims to prepare 29 players for the upcoming T20I series against New Zealand, Ireland, England, and the T20 World Cup 2024, scheduled from March 26 to April 8.
