RCB’s level of aggression has to be above a certain threshold: Andy Flower

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) suffered their fourth defeat in five matches as they failed to overcome Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur on April 6, 2024. While Virat Kohli displayed remarkable resilience, scoring 113 runs off 72 balls at a strike rate just above 156, his opening partner Faf du Plessis managed only 44 runs off 33 balls, with a strike rate hovering around 133.

Addressing the post-match press conference, RCB's head coach Andy Flower highlighted the importance of aggression and form in T20 cricket. He stressed the need for players to maintain a certain level of aggression, especially on good pitches like the one in Jaipur. Flower expressed disappointment in the team's inability to capitalize on their strong start, as they were 107/0 in the 12th over but failed to build a substantial total.

Flower acknowledged the exemplary form of Kohli, who currently leads the team's run-scoring charts with 316 runs from five matches. However, he expressed concern over the lack of form and confidence among other RCB batters, noting that the team is struggling to find the right balance in their batting lineup.

"We do discuss strike rates and aggression; it's part of the understanding of the T20 game," Flower remarked. "The level of aggression has to be above a certain threshold, and you have to always be putting the opposition under pressure. Certainly taking the aggressive option, especially on pitches like today."
"We're one from five, and that's not a position any side wants to be," Flower added. "Yes, we do have some issues with our batting. We got Virat in superb form, but other guys are struggling for form and confidence. We're trying everything we can to make them feel strong and confident."

As the IPL progresses, RCB will be looking to address their batting woes and regain momentum in the tournament.
